Falinge Park High School
An interview with Paula O'Reilly, Sarah-Jane York and Sylwia Glazewska, Falinge Park High School
In this seven-minute video we hear from the director of maths, deputy head and headteacher, and see into the collaborative planning sessions which have led to the success of the maths department at Falinge Park High School in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.
Falinge Park is an 11-16 mixed comprehensive school of around 1,350 students, and has been working with North West One Maths Hub to improve pupil outcomes and consistency in maths teaching across the school.
Use is made in their planning sessions of the NCETM's Checkpoints, ready-made diagnostic activities to assess student understanding. Use of professional development materials offers additional opportunities for staff to identify key ideas within topics.
If you think your department might benefit from collaborative planning, taking part in a fully-funded professional development project with your local Maths Hub could get you started. Contact your local hub now to find out what’s available in your local area.
